Canada's passenger rail network
The nation’s passenger rail network has also recently seen an increase in focus.
In addition to the massive $16.8 billion
GO Rail expansion underway in Ontario’s Greater Golden Horeshoe region, which will generate thousands of new jobs, adding over 200 kilometres of new track and electrifying over 600 kilometres of track, there are other signs Canadian rail passengers could have more options in days to come.
While obviously dealing primarily with rail in the U.S., buried within the 1,000-plus page bipartisan Biden infrastructure bill passed earlier this year are provisions that could provide a boost to Canada’s passenger rail network.
The deal includes funding to expand Canadians’ limited rail options in and out of the U.S., with
proposed route expansions including Toronto-Chicago and Seattle-Vancouver lines.
